Do you remember that traditional
old Gospel song, with a chorus that went like this?
God is so
high you can't
get over Him;
So wide you can't get around Him;
So low you can't get under Him.
Little children enjoy singing that song, because they can
act along with the words. “So high”…and they stretch their hands above their
heads; “So wide” … and they spread their arms wide; “So low”…and they crouch
down as low as they can.

Have
you ever watched a TV advertisement for a product that appears SO AMAZING and
the price SO CHEAP that it seems just too good to be true? At first you’re
probably skeptical, but as you listen to testimonial after testimonial, you
begin to believe that this might indeed be a miracle product – the very thing
you’ve been waiting for, whether you knew it or not.
Everyone has some concept of right and wrong, and everyone has done something wrong even by his or her own definition. “To err is human,” says a common proverb. Everyone has betrayed a friend, broken a promise or hurt someone's feelings. Everyone has experienced the feeling of guilt.
People therefore want God to stay away from them. They do not want a day of judgment, because they know they cannot stand before God with a clear conscience. They know they should obey him, but they also know that they have not. They are ashamed and guilty.
Have you ever had a really bad day? Maybe you’ve been fired, totaled your car, and, just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, you were served divorce papers in the emergency room! Whatever your worst day was, no doubt someone had it even worse.
But wouldn’t it be good if today was the worst day of your life—if, from now on, things will only get better?

While sipping coffee and browsing news one morning, I came across a lead sentence so amusing I had to write it down. Take a look.
Fri Dec 2, 11:22 AM ET NEW YORK (Reuters Health)—Women who go through menopause in their early 40s may have a slightly higher risk of death later in life compared with their peers, a large U.S. study suggests.

Jesus
didn’t carry any swords or spears. He didn’t have an army behind him.
His only
weapon was his mouth, and it was his message that got him into trouble.
He made people so
angry that they wanted to kill him.
In a religion based on
faith, why have any rituals at all? What does
this have to do with the gospel?
Rituals were a prominent
part of Old Testament worship.
Christianity, in contrast, has only two basic rituals: baptism and the
Lord's Supper
— and there are no detailed regulations for either observance.
In a religion in which
faith is primary, why have any rituals at all?
