100-year birthdays
It is rare to attend the birthday party of someone who has reached 100, but to attend two of those parties the same year is even more unusual. Below is a photo of Evylin Johnson (left) who reached the age of 100 on August 1. Next to her is Hilda Rust, who turned 100 on November 7. Both Evylin and Hilda have been long-time members (as well as good friends) of Living Hope Christian Fellowship in Champlin, Minnesota. Hilda was born prematurely, weighing less than 4 pounds. She is also a survivor of the deadly world wide 1918 flu epidemic. She was 8 years old at the time and was sick for nearly a year. She knew many people who died from that epidemic.
