GCI Philippines recently held a three-day-long seminar for a
group of young emerging church leaders in Mindanao. Pastor Jerome
Villamor Manriquez, Area Superintendent for Mindanao, opened the seminar
with a presentation on trying hard vs. trusting God. Pastor Levi Yuson,
Assistant Area Superintendent for Mindanao, gave a devotional on the
true meaning of success.
On February 23 GCI’s congregation in Talisay City,
Philippines conducted its first medical-dental outreach. The church
compound in Talisay served as the venue for providing free medical help
to 167 patients and free teeth extractions to 50 patients.
This update concerns GCI’s Rayong Bible Ministries (RABIM),
operating in Thailand. Its leaders and members are mostly GCI Philippine
missionaries.
RABIM recently held a fifth anniversary celebration with the theme
“His indescribable gifts.” It was attended by about 150 Thai and
Filipino friends. Dancers and other performers added to the festive
spirit.
Eugene Guzon, national director of GCI Philippines recently led a
meeting of the advisory council at the national office. The purpose of
the meeting was to discuss concerns related to the national church in
the Philippines.
From its Disaster Relief Fund, GCI donated US$30,000 to the Bengali Evangelical Association.
That donation is funding the rebuilding of a church multi-purpose
building that had to be razed due to damage from a typhoon that recently
devastated parts of Bangladesh. Here are pictures of the rebuilding
progress.
65 singles from seven GCI Philippines congregations and fellowships
attended a year-end camp at Playa Calatagan, Batangas. The camp was held
as part of the year-long jubilee celebration of GCI in the Philippines.
The camp was designed to address the spiritual, emotional,
intellectual, social and physical aspects of life as a single.
This update is from Eugene Guzon, GCI’s national leader in the
Philippines and mission director for Northern Asia and Micronesia.
I recently traveled to Rayong City, Thailand, a two and a half hour
drive from Bangkok. There I met with GCI pastor Joel and Beth Alisbo who
work in Rayong as teachers, along with Jean Anne Almera. They gave me a
tour of their mission’s halfway house and worship center. This place is
also their venue for teaching English as a second language to Thai
adults and children.
